Fishing  The upper St. Joe River is one of Idaho's finest cutthroat rivers. The entire fifteen miles that are within our territorial boundary are part of the National Wild and Scenic
Rivers system. This water is also designated as "quality fishing" by the State of Idaho Department of Fish and Game. The St. Joe is primarily home to native cutthroat trout, though you may occasionally see a whitefish or even a bull trout (closed to fishing). There are specific regulations that apply here, catch-and-release only, using artificial flies and lures with a single barbless hook. Fishing on "the Joe" during early June can be difficult due to high
water from the spring runoff. We suggest that if fishing is your main interest, that you book during July, August, or September. Most of our summer guests are experienced fisherman, preferring to explore and learn the river in their own way, though many use the services of a fly fishing guide for part of their stay. For the novice angler or someone who enjoys the company of an experienced hand, we offer professional fly fishing guides. They are only
available on a limited basis and an additional fee is involved for this service.
We offer 4 to 7 day trips June through September. We are a very small operation, with a maximum of eight guests at one time. Early booking is important. Families are always welcome on summer trips, kids and horses just seem to go together naturally. It is important however, that children be able to follow
a guide's directions on the trail and around stock. We recommend the children be 10 years of age or older. Pack Trips  Exploring the high country and crater lakes of Idaho's Bitterroot Mountains is always an adventure. There is an endless variety of wildflowers and wildlife, including five
species of big game that inhabit our area. The flora and fauna along the upper St. Joe River are a photographers dream come true. Not only are there small animals, large game, countless birds and beautiful water scenes, but the mountain wildflowers fill entire meadows and hillsides. So, don't forget your camera. That's not to mention fishing at some of the high mountain lakes!
Unlike our Lodge trips, pack trips are of a 6 day duration and have specific departure
